Located near the heart of the Kansas City Metro region, residents of Prairie Village have easy access to the greater metro area including and all that it has to offer. As of 2010, Prairie Village had a population of 22,000, but since it is only driving distance from Kansas City, feels much larger. The town also has four distinct seasons climate wise, fantastic educational facilities and homes for sale in a place where residents enjoy a lower-than-average cost of living and lower unemployment rates than most of the country.

Prairie Village was a planned community, the brainchild of Johnson County native, J.C. Nichols, who had designed the Country Club Plaza area in Kansas City. Construction began on the future site of Prairie Village in 1941 and by 1949 the village was a reality; a reality named “best planned community in America” by the National Association of Homebuilders soon after its completion. Among other accolades, Prairie Village was named by the Kansas City Star as one of the five best suburban cities in the region; and in 2006 one of the five most efficient cities in the region.

Residents of Prairie City have educational opportunities within close promixity, as well, including the University of Kansas Edwards Campus, Johnson County Community College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The public school systems boast a lower-than-average student-to-teacher ratio, a major factor in making it an effective teaching facility.

The climate in Prairie Village includes hot summers and cold winters. Spring and fall are beautiful, and the four seasons are distinct, which appeals to many residents and aspiring residents. Real estate in Prairie Village gives homeowners the chance to experience the different seasons and changing climates, while not every region in the nation gets the same opportunity.
