Mission is fortunate to be part of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District. The 1,250-acre Shawnee Mission Park is a favorite destination for people all over Kansas. In fact, it is the most visited park in the entire state! With interpretive nature trails, an off-leash dog area, sports fields, an archery range, a lake, and even an outdoor theatre, this multi-use park, located just minutes from the heart of Mission, is nothing short of a recreational wonderland. You can also take a leisurely stroll through the historic Helen Cuddy Rose Garden in nearby Antioch Park, or join a game of softball at the Mid-America West Sports Complex. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a challenging round in picturesque Heritage Park Golf Course or Tomahawk Hills Golf Course. The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) is known for being one of the most innovative and successful in all of Johnson County. Offering an array of AP and specialized programs for students, SMSD is continually recognized for its impressive number of Advanced Placement Scholars, National Merit Scholars, United States Presidential Scholars &International Baccalaureate Program. And there are also several excellent private schools in & nearby Mission, including Bishop Miege High School, Brookridge Day School and Little Lambs Montessori School. 

With nearly 700 physicians, the Shawnee Mission Medical Center is a first-class medical hub, located just twelve minutes from Mission’s town center. Not only is it the home of Johnson County’s most preferred ER, Shawnee Mission Medical Center offers an array of health services and wellness classes. 

Mission is served by Johnson County Transit (The JO), providing bus routes to every corner of the county. Mission residents enjoy affordable fares (as low as a dollar, one-way), and clean, dependable transportation.
